The activity of the Branch of the German Caritas Association in Tajikistan

Over the past ten years, the Branch of the German Caritas Association in Tajikistan has implemented more than 30 programs and projects jointly with partners – government agencies and local NGOs.
The charter activities of CARITAS are targeted to developing social services for vulnerable individuals and communities. They include home care for lonely elderly citizens, women with many children who lost their main breadwinners, graduates of boarding schools and orphanages, and people with disabilities. The organization also supports victims of emergency situations and natural disasters.
For the purpose of the local capacity building and development of the civil sector, the CARITAS branch implements its projects through non-governmental organizations. The work is carried out in rural areas, in regions that are far away from administrative centers, where access to social services is limited and communities are especially vulnerable.
Since 2010, the priority direction of Caritas Germany is the implementation of the WHO’s Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Program funded by the European Union, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the International Department of Caritas Headquarters. To date, Caritas Germany, in partnership with local governments and local public organizations, has implemented CBR projects in 5 districts of Tajikistan: Vahdat, Devashtich, Konibodom, Shahrituz and Ayni.
