Joint Certificate Training Programme 2026 on “Leveraging Technological Innovation, Evidence-Based Decision-Making and South-South Cooperation to Address Systemic Urban Risk and Strengthen Disaster Resilience

The course is co-organized by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Global Education and Training Institute (GETI), the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), and the United Nations Technology Bank for the Least Developed Countries (UNTB), supported by the Government of China and Türkiye through the UN Fund for South-South Cooperation, and the Government of the Republic of Korea (Ministry of the Interior and Safety and Incheon Metropolitan City).

This year’s programme builds on a long-standing multilateral collaboration that has reached more than 11,000 live participants and 6,500 self-paced learners across 155 countries since 2020. The 2026 edition aims to build the capacities of urban practitioners and stakeholders, including national counterparts, to understand and apply practical tools and approaches that support more resilient, risk-informed, inclusive, and health-prepared urban environments.

Programme Overview:

Participants will engage in four thematic online sessions:

  1. Session 1 (29 April): Applying Resilience Diagnostics for Extreme Heat Risk Management (led by UNDRR) – 120 min
  2. Session 2 (6 May): Geospatial Intelligence for Health Emergency Decision-Making (led by PAHO) – 90 min
  3. Session 3 (13 May): Technology Solutions for Climate and Disaster Resilience – Leveraging Science, Technology and Innovation (led by UNTB) – 90 min
  4. Session 4 (20 May): Harnessing South-South and Triangular Cooperation to Mitigate Extreme Weather Impacts through Proactive Disaster Risk Reduction (UNOSSC) – 90 min

Target Audience:

Urban practitioners; national and local government officials; DRR, climate resilience, and health emergency professionals; academia; civil society; private sector; and development partners.
Strong encouragement is given to participants from LDCs and SIDS.

The course is open for unlimited registration free of charge, however, access to live sessions is limited to 3,000 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.

Course certificate:

  • Certificate of Completion: Attend all four live sessions and complete the post-course survey
  • Certificate of Attendance: Attend at least one live session but not completing all course requirements
