Death Announcement – Professor Sally Hartley
It is with deep sorrow that the CBR Africa Network ( CAN) announces the passing of Professor Sally Hartley, our beloved Patron, Co-founder, and long-serving Director.
Professor Hartley was a visionary leader, a tireless advocate for Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) and Community-Based Inclusive Development (CBID), and a steadfast champion of the rights, dignity, and inclusion of persons with disabilities across Africa and beyond. Through her dedication, wisdom, and compassion, she played a pivotal role in founding and nurturing the CBR Africa Network, shaping it into a vibrant platform for learning, collaboration, and action.
For many years, Professor Hartley served CAN with exceptional commitment, guiding the network with integrity, humility, and an unwavering belief in the power of communities to drive inclusive development. Her contributions to disability-inclusive policy, practice, research, and capacity building have left an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire generations of practitioners, researchers, and advocates.
The CAN family mourns the loss of an extraordinary leader, mentor, colleague, and friend. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives and work were impacted by her remarkable journey.
Professor Sally Hartley’s legacy will live on through the communities she empowered, hthe values she upheld, and an inclusive future she helped to build.
