8th AFRINEAD CONFERENCE FIRST CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

AfriNEAD will host its 8th conference from Tuesday 24th November to the 26th November 2026 at Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.

CONFERENCE THEME:

“Realizing Disability Potentials in Africa: Opportunities and Threats to Full Inclusion in Trying Times”

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

The Scientific Committee of the 8th AfriNEAD Conference invites contributions from persons with disabilities (PWDs), researchers, business personnel, policy makers, activists, and practitioners to share evidence, experiences, and ideas on how disability potentials can be realised in Africa to unlock opportunities and threats for the realisation of rights of PWDs in Africa.

The theme, “Realizing Disability Potentials in Africa: Opportunities and Threats to Full Inclusion in Trying Times” requires researchers to reflect on the gaps in realizing disability potentials in African continent, analyse opportunities and threats to full inclusion for PWDs in trying times. This is to establish the state of disability in local context in the lens of the 9 UNCRPD thematic areas listed below and SDG goals especially goals (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 16 & 17).

Abstracts will be organized around the following 9 thematic areas drawn as follows:

A. Children & Youth with Disabilities,

B. Education: Early Childhood to Tertiary

C. Economic Empowerment,

D. Development Process in Africa: Poverty, Politics, and Indigenous Knowledge Systems

E. Health and HIV & AIDS

F. Community Based Rehabilitation

G. Assistive Technology

H. Holistic Wellness: Sport, Recreation, Sexuality and Spirituality

I. Disability Research

Through a wide range of perspectives, knowledge and methodologies, presenters at the 8th AfriNEAD Conference are invited to participate in a common exploration of questions such as, but not limited to, the following:

Why do PWDs lack access to opportunities in Africa?

How have potentials for PWDs in Africa been a threat to full inclusion?

How have PWDs in Africa been intimidated and potentially locked?

What opportunities impact PWDs negatively away from full inclusion in Africa?

Why is engaging PWDs in available opportunities the hardest task for inclusion in Africa?

To what extent do PWDS, Government officials, academia, Disability Researchers, CSOs and individuals explore opportunities that widen the level of PWDs inclusion?

AfriNEAD calls upon prospective presenters to indicate:

a. Whether they want their submissions to be considered for oral or poster presentation

b. Indicate one out of the 9 thematic areas your abstract is presented (e.g., A, B, C. … please see above)

Abstract Structure

The abstract should be a maximum of 250 words, in Times New Roman, font size 12, and written in British English. All abstract submissions should follow the following structure: Background, Methods, Results and Conclusions.

Abstract Key Dates

Abstract early submission deadline: 15th November 2025, midnight GMT

Notification to Authors: 28th February 2026

Revised Abstract Deadline: 30th March 2026

All abstracts received will be forwarded to the Scientific Committee for evaluation. All abstracts will be assessed based on criteria put forward by AfriNEAD. You will be informed if your abstract has been accepted or needs further revision including the format of presentation.
