Solidarity is a natural social requirement. It is the link that binds human beings together in a network of relationships that has become global.
The bond can break and men and women find themselves destitute, in difficulty, in loneliness, illness, rupture. To meet these needs, men and women are actors in charitable organizations, denominational or not. These people and organizations who are resolutely committed to the defence of human rights, for development and against misery, for justice and peace, work for a culture of life.
Christians certainly do not have the monopoly of solidarity, but for them, solidarity is the translation of the evangelical demand for love of neighbour. “A preacher has to contemplate the word, but he also has to contemplate his people”. (Apostolic Exhortation EVANGELII GAUDIUM N. 154)
