Consultations on the WHO Global Report on health equity for persons with disabilities

At the 74th World Health Assembly in May 2021, Member States adopted resolution WHA74.8 on The highest attainable standard of health for persons with disabilities. This landmark resolution provides WHO with a mandate to continue its commitment to promote disability inclusion in the health sector.

As part of its guidance to countries, the resolution specifically requests WHO to develop a global report on the highest attainable standard of health for persons with disabilities by the end of 2022.

To ensure the practicality and relevance of the global report, it is essential to seek inputs from a wide range of partners including Member States, civil society, academia, health professionals and the private sector.

As part of the report development process, WHO will hold a series of consultations on the Global Report on health equity for persons with disabilities.  WHO welcomes interested stakeholders including health sector partners, civil society representatives and representatives of organizations of persons with disabilities to attend.

Objectives

The objectives of the consultations are to provide

  1. Information on the report content and development process
  2. An overview of how this report aims to address health equity for persons with disabilities
  3. Allow participants to more easily review and provide feedback on the draft and summary of the report, available online after the consultation

Format

The consultation will be repeated over 3 different days and times, to accommodate for various time zones.  Participants only need to attend one consultation, as they will all provide the same content.

Language

The consultations will be supported by relevant interpretation in the official WHO languages, (depending on the time zone), Closed Captioning, and International Sign language.
