WFD was established in Rome, Italy in 1951 and is an international non-governmental organisation with membership comprising 135 Ordinary Members as of 31 December 2018 in addition to Individual Members, Associate Members and
International Members.
The WFD also has eight (8) Regional Secretariats and one (1) Regional Cooperating Member.
