The 7th Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) /Community Based Inclusive Development (CBID) Africa Conference is organized by CBR Africa Network (CAN) and hosted by the Government of Uganda spearheaded by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD).
The CBR Africa Network (CAN) is a continental civil society organization founded in Uganda in 2001. CAN’s mission is to promote networking, and generation, documentation and sharing of information on CBR and CBID among stakeholders. The MGLSD is the lead government entity responsible for disability and rehabilitation policy and service provision.
This three-day CBR/CBID Africa conference will provide a platform for various stakeholders to come together, exchange ideas on the role of CBR/CBID in promoting disability inclusive development. The stakeholders include persons with disabilities and their carers, policymakers, government officials, advocates, researchers, practitioners, development partners as well as representatives of organizations of and for persons with disabilities in Africa and beyond. Additionally, the conference will spur stakeholder engagement on innovative and transformative approaches towards creating disability-inclusive communities.
The timing of this 7th CBR/CBID Africa conference is remarkable as it signifies three major milestones in the field of CBR/CBID. First, September 2024 marks 46 years of CBR existence and contribution to enhancement of participation, inclusion and well-being of persons with disabilities at all levels in society. Second, September this year also marks the symbolic return of the CBR conference to Uganda and the birth of CAN in 2001. Third, September 2024 further marks 23 years of CAN’s contribution to CBR/CBID information sharing and networking in Africa.
